On Friday, August 8, 2025, the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a U.S.-brokered peace agreement at the White House, aiming to end decades of conflict. The agreement was signed by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, with President Donald Trump in attendance.

This deal marks the first peace agreement between the two nations since the end of the Cold War and is seen as a significant diplomatic achievement for the United States, reducing Russia's influence in the region.

A key component of the deal is the creation of a major transit corridor through Armenian territory, which will connect Azerbaijan with its exclave, Nakhchivan. This corridor will be named the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity." The agreement grants the U.S. exclusive rights to develop this route for up to 99 years. The corridor is expected to include a rail line, oil and gas pipelines, and fiber optic lines, facilitating the movement of goods and people and bypassing both Russia and Iran.

In addition to the joint peace agreement, Armenia and Azerbaijan also signed separate bilateral deals with the United States to enhance cooperation in energy, technology, and the economy. The leaders of both countries expressed optimism about the future, with Aliyev praising Trump for achieving a "miracle" and Pashinyan calling the agreement a "significant milestone."

The deal also includes a request for the dissolution of the Minsk Group, which had been mediating the conflict since the 1990s. While some questions remain about the long-term impact and legal standing of the non-legally-binding document, the agreement is a major step toward normalizing relations in the South Caucasus.

In times of such hope for peace, it is important to remember that the Lord is near to all who call on him. Please join me in prayer for the people of Armenia and Azerbaijan, that this agreement will bring lasting peace and prosperity to their lands.
